"You might not know exactly what it is” — The Lab takes over De Koepel

Wandering without certainty
“The Lab invites you to wander and spend some time exploring without any real sense of certainty,” Annemijn explains. “Whether that’s uncertainty about where you are, where you’re going, or what you’re seeing and experiencing.”
At Body of Art, she creates dance performances and theatrical installations. The Lab is neither of those, and that’s precisely the point. “It’s not a dance performance, it’s not choreography.” What it is, is harder to capture in a single word — and that’s exactly where the invitation lies.
A vacuum in a busy programme
TURF offers three packed days of nightlife, talks, music, artists and venues spread throughout the city. The Lab deliberately offers something different. “We’re going to create a kind of vacuum where, amid everything TURF has to offer, you can take a moment for yourself. A kind of reset.”
So rather than adding another stimulus, it offers a place to step away for a while. That makes The Lab less a programme item and more a moment to catch your breath in the middle of the festival.
Why TURF?
A work that resists definition needs a festival that makes room for it. “TURF’s experimental nature provides a really great context for this work,” says Annemijn. She doesn’t see the fact that the experience is new and undefined as a problem that needs to be resolved. Quite the opposite:
“You might not know exactly what it is, and it’s new, but it says so much about how we navigate our way through life as human beings. About what it means to be human in this day and age. That’s what I really love about it.”
Small groups, short time slots
The Lab operates in 45-minute sessions, with a maximum of three visitors per time slot. This isn’t just a practical consideration; it’s part of the experience. You won’t be moving through the space in a stream of people — you’ll have it almost entirely to yourself. As capacity is limited, booking in advance is highly recommended.
